Threshold Training

Threshold training builds sustainable pace at lactate threshold with tempo and cruise intervals—balance with easy volume to avoid recovery debt.

Threshold training rides at or near lactate threshold—the highest steady effort you could hold roughly thirty to sixty minutes—improving sustainable pace for cyclists and runners. Sessions include tempo blocks, cruise intervals, and progressive finishes.

Too much threshold work crowds recovery; anchor with ample Zone 2 volume.

Common questions

  • How long should a threshold interval be?

Common blocks run eight to twenty minutes at threshold pace, or shorter cruise intervals with brief rest. Cap weekly threshold minutes to protect easy days.
