RIR Autoregulation

RIR autoregulation scales lifting by reps left in the tank—preserving quality on tired days and pushing harder when readiness is high.

RIR autoregulation adjusts daily training by reps in reserve—how many clean reps you could still do at session end. High sleep and readiness might target two RIR; fatigue days stop at four or five RIR instead of forcing planned loads.

It pairs with RPE and beats rigid percentages on bad days.

Common questions

  • What RIR should most hypertrophy sets use?

Roughly one to three RIR on working sets is a common range—stop sets when bar speed slows sharply or form breaks, not when ego demands zero RIR every day.
