Pursed-Lip Breathing
Pursed-lip breathing uses a slow exhale through pursed lips—often twice the inhale length—to ease breathlessness and improve gas exchange during stress or easy exertion.
Pursed-lip breathing inhales through the nose and exhales slowly through slightly pursed lips—often twice as long on the out-breath—to reduce breathlessness and improve oxygen exchange in clinical and athletic settings. It helps during uphill walks, anxiety spikes, or cooldowns.
Do not force maximal exhales.
