Physiological Sigh

A physiological sigh uses a double inhale and long exhale to quickly lower arousal in research settings. One to three cycles can calm acute stress in minutes.

A physiological sigh is a double inhale through the nose—second sniff tops up lung air—followed by a long exhale through the mouth, rapidly downshifting arousal and heart rate in lab studies. One to three cycles can blunt acute stress before sleep or between meetings.

It is not a substitute for therapy or medical care.

Common questions

  • How many physiological sighs do you need?

Research demos often use one to three cycles. Stop when you feel calmer; repeat later if stress returns.
