Heat Stroke Emergency Response
Heat stroke emergency response is immediate cooling plus emergency care when hot exercise causes confusion or collapse—cool first, do not delay for fluids alone.
Heat stroke emergency response treats core temperature above roughly 40°C with central nervous system changes—confusion, collapse, seizures, or coma—during or after hot exertion. It is a medical emergency: call emergency services, stop activity, and begin aggressive cooling with ice baths, cold water immersion, or ice packs to neck, armpits, and groin while monitoring breathing.
Do not wait to rehydrate before cooling.
Common questions
-
Should you give water before cooling in heat stroke?
Cooling is the priority if mental status is altered—immersion or ice packs while help is en route. Fluids matter after stabilization unless the person is awake and able to sip safely.
