Fed State Training

Fed state training uses recent meals to fuel hard output—default for intervals, heavy lifts, and skill work when intermittent fasting schedules allow.

Fed state training means exercising after a recent meal or snack with available glucose and amino acids—glycogen is topped, RPE on intervals is usually lower, and strength attempts are more reliable. It is the default for hypertrophy blocks, team sport practice, and threshold sessions.

Intermittent fasting athletes schedule fed state work inside the eating window or after a targeted pre-session snack.

Common questions

  • How soon before training should you eat?

Small carb-protein snacks one to three hours before work for many people; larger meals need more lead time to avoid GI distress. Experiment on easy days first.
