Event Triggered If-Then Plan

An event triggered if-then plan uses an existing daily happening—stand alert, oven timer, meeting end—as the cue for a scripted action.

An event triggered if-then plan uses an external happening as cue—if my watch shows stand reminder, then ten squats; if the oven timer rings, then I log dinner; if the team standup ends, then I drink water before Slack. Event cues beat arbitrary alarms when the event already exists in your day.

Avoid stacking too many reactions on one event.

Common questions

  • What is a good first event cue?

Pick an event you never ignore—morning alarm, first coffee pour, or post-workout cooldown start. Attach one small action for two weeks before adding another.
