Double Progression RPE for Beginners
Double progression RPE for beginners adds reps to the top of a range at RPE eight, then bumps load—rep ladders before plate jumps on the same lift.
Double progression RPE for beginners adds reps within a range—say six to ten—at the same weight until all sets hit the top rep at RPE eight, then increases load and drops back to the bottom rep. It pairs rep ladders with effort ratings so load jumps follow capacity, not calendar guilt.
Example: three sets of six to ten on goblet squat; when three sets reach ten at RPE eight, add five pounds and return to sixes. Works on machines and dumbbells where micro plates are scarce.
Avoid adding weight while bottom reps already feel RPE nine.

What rep range works best for double progression?
Six to ten on compounds and eight to twelve on accessories are common starter bands. Keep the range narrow so progress comparisons stay honest.
