Bouldering Flash vs Send
A bouldering flash is a first-go send without prior beta; a send after practice reflects project work—each loads fingers and skin differently.
A bouldering flash means topping a problem on the first attempt without prior beta or rehearsal on that line; a send is completing it after practice falls or rehearsed sequences. Flash attempts spike focus and try hard on one go; project sends accumulate tendon and skin load over many tries on the same holds.
Log both to see whether progress is onsight skill or rehearsed strength and tension. Neither style is morally better—each belongs in periodized plans.
Common questions
-
Does a flash count if you watched someone climb first?
Community rules vary. Strict flash means no prior beta on that problem; watching others is often called a flash with beta or soft flash—be consistent in your log.
